Arsenal target January transfer swoops

Arsene Wenger is planning a major January transfer shake-up to save Arsenal’s season.
The Gunners' boss Wenger has stepped up his attempts to bring in a new midfielder after Jack Wilshere’s latest ankle problem ruled the England international out for up to three months.
And Wenger is also aiming to bring in TWO centre-backs as he looks to bolster his injury-hit defence and help that unit try to find some consistency.
Arsenal are looking at Sevilla’s Polish midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, a defensive midfield anchorman, as a potential January.
The 24-year-old has impressed the north Londoners' scouts but Sevilla would want around £20million for him, and Italians Inter Milan are also keen.
Wenger has money to spend in January, but any deal will come down to whether the Spaniards are prepared to sell and if the Gunners decide Krychowiak is definitely the answer to some of their problems.
Everton’s James McCarthy is another potential midfield target.
Arsenal have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old, since before he left Wigan for Goodison Park in summer 2013.
Everton would be reluctant to part with the Republic of Ireland international so the price would again be huge, even if McCarthy may be keen on a switch to the Emirates.

Wenger has put his faith in Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini to be his defensive midfielders but there is a realisation that they need reinforcements, having failed to bring any in last summer.
The Gunners looked at Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira but the German World Cup winner priced himself out of a move with his sky-high wage demands, and they now are likely to look at a more defensive player.
Arsenal also want to add defensive cover. There is an acceptance they left themselves short after selling Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona in the summer.
That decision has left them stretched with full-back Nacho Monreal having to fill in at centre-half, so they will try to bring in two defenders with one likely to be a young prospect and the other a more established player who can fit into the squad.
There is concern about Per Mertesacker’s form, so the chase is on to find an experienced centre-half to be an alternative.

Arsenal are also keen on Ipswich youngster Tyrone Mings - a left-back who is seen as ripe for conversion to centre-half - and are likely to bid for him in January. They are facing competition from Chelsea.
Arsenal have also been heavily linked with Chelsea keeper Petr Cech but the issue will be whether Jose Mourinho sanctions a move for the Stamford Bridge hero, particularly to another Premier League club. There is strong interest in the 32-year-old from abroad.
Wenger is likely to allow one of his forwards to go out on loan in January, with that part of his squad overloaded with players.
That could mean Joel Campbell is farmed out in January to get more regular games with interest from Portugal's Benfica and Inter Milan as well as English clubs.
